hk prize is a competition designed to recognize students who excel both academically and extracurricularly. It aims to reward hard work while encouraging them to follow their passions with global perspectives – providing extra motivation for future success.
The winner of the Hong Kong Prize will receive a scholarship to attend an elite university, as well as the chance to participate in a research internship at one of Hong Kong’s top companies. Furthermore, this hk prize aims to motivate and encourage more Hong Kongers towards careers as scientists or engineers who contribute significantly to Hong Kong’s economy.
From its inception, the Hong Kong Prize has been an object of pride among residents. Established by philanthropist Run Run Shaw who believed science could provide solutions to some of humanity’s biggest challenges, the hk prize honors outstanding achievements in scientific research as well as promote international cooperation between scientists.
As the world strives towards a sustainable future, scientific and technological innovation becomes ever more vital. Hong Kong is recognized as an innovator and technological hub, ranking second best place in the world to do business and second for innovation and technology development. Chief Executive CY Leung reiterated his government’s determination to transform Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology center and postsecondary education hub in his Policy Address last month.
In science and technology, the HK Prize offers the highest honor to individuals whose innovations have significantly benefited humanity. It also serves as an incentive to young researchers, encouraging their pursuit of excellence across fields such as life sciences research, new materials for energy production, artificial intelligence/robotics/advanced manufacturing etc.
Nomination forms and proposals for innovative scientific research in any field must be submitted, with submissions reviewed by the BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team before competition winners receive cash awards of up to HK$2 Million as well as medals and certificates.
The Hong Kong Prize honors teams of researchers across various fields. This includes the HK Biotechnology Prize – two awards are granted for biomedical research – and the HK Chemical and Material Sciences Prize, which encompasses biotechnology, nanotechnology, advanced materials chemistry sciences and physics research. Each winner of these prizes receives a medal, certificate and HK$200,000 award.
To ensure the fairness of HKJC prize draws, employees from their security and customer service departments are accountable for every aspect of a prize draw. They measure, weigh and inspect balls used for draws on an ongoing basis; after each draw they are collected and stored safely before being stored away securely after their use in draws. Furthermore, all drawing machines undergo thorough checks prior to every drawing session.
