Dominos are rectangular game pieces featuring two square ends connected by a line, which may either be blank or contain from one to six spots (pips). A set of 28 pieces, or a deck, forms a domino. They can be used to play various games by matching numbers on their faces or by laying them out in lines and angular patterns; materials used include bone, silver lip ocean pearl oyster shell (mother-of-pearl – MOP), ivory, dark woods such as ebony. Before Hevesh begins creating her magnificent domino setups, she carefully tests each part. To do this, she creates test versions of 3-D pieces and arranges them flat so she can monitor for problems as she builds the structure in layers from largest sections down. Once satisfied that each part works as planned, Hevesh moves on to smaller ones until completeness.
She begins by adding a base to anchor her structure before creating smaller patterns with smaller sections, eventually connecting all layers with lines of dominoes – her final masterpieces have even been featured in movies, TV shows and Katy Perry’s album launch! Her amazing creations have even won her awards at international festivals!
Hevesh became interested in dominoes at age 9, when her grandparents gave her a classic 28-pack. She found great enjoyment arranging them into rows of straight or curved lines before flicking one to make the entire row fall down at once – something which inspired her to begin designing her own domino designs and share them on YouTube with millions of fans worldwide.
